I'm reading "The Madwoman in the Attic" as one of my sources for a 20 page lit research paper i'm writing for my 19th Century British Novel class. The first sentence of the entire 700+ page book is: "Is a pen a metaphorical penis?"
That's pretty damn rad. What do you think? And what does that mean for female authors?
I guess I should mention that I'm a writer. I always have been, always will be. I was writing stories before I could even physically write - I would dictate them to my parents who would write them down for me when I was a baby. (They still have them all :)) Writing is my creative outlet, my passion, my way of expressing myself, my way of dealing with and making sense of the world - my writing is very much ME. It's a part of me just like my heart is a part of me.
I can imagine that other artistic individuals can appreciate that - the musician, the painter, the photographer - what they create is in many ways their baby and their medium of choice is their lense through which they view the world.
Anyway, that's all for now. Back to the grind...
